History of the hotel and restaurant complex "Golden Peacock"
It’s with good reason that the lord’s “Golden Peacock (Zolota Pava)” Casino of Bereg Commitat is considered to beone of the most popular buildings in Berehove. This is where solemn events of the town, such as regional balls, meeting of the ruling elite and members of public cultural organizations, were once held. Many famous artists from all over the world took part in the musical performanceswhich were held here. The star of the operetta Anna Bati, Hungarian Count Istvan Secheny and Hungarian writer Ferenc Mora also visited the institution.
The idea of opening the lord’s casino belonged toTomash Etvesh, the second zhupan of Bereg Comitat, who gathered respected residents of the town to discuss this issue. At the first meeting, the “Basic Rules of Conduct at the Casino” were developed, where particular attention was paid to the fact that visitors to the casino “must be good-looking, be able to hold conversations in a polite way, adhere to the rules of conduct in public places” (1820 – 1839). In May 1841 a library was opened at the casino, the money having been raised from voluntary donations.
In the spring of 1912 the renovation of the institution started, at this time wood-carved peacocks and fresco paintingsmade by Alfonso Mukha, Czech-Moravian painter, appeared there, they still ornate the restaurant giving it a breath of those times. “The Rising Star” fresco in the ceiling depicting awoman lights up the entrance, on the walls of the hall there are portraits of magnificent nymphs, each being associated with a season or time of the day. After World War II “Karpaty” restaurant was opened in the building. In the 1980s the building was restored, all the old parts of the building were generally preserved. In 2003, the restaurant was renamed into the“Golden Peacock (Zolota Pava) ”Hotel and Restaurant Complex, which is now anarchitectural landmark of Berehove.
Many years have passed, but this building is still filled with the spirit of the last century
